Traveling to Casa Emerald Palms

CONFIRM your Booking and SCHEDULE your flight into Liberia International Airport

Costa Rica is readily accessible by most Canadian, U.S. and European air carriers. Many non-stop flights originate each day from Toronto, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, New York City/Newark, Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte and more.

Choose LIR (Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport) in Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica for your arrival.

(There is another international airport in San Jose, within the central region of Costa Rica, but travel to Casa Emerald Palm is much easier from LIR)

COMMUNICATE your Flight Details

On or about your final payment confirmation, we will ask for your flight details, confirm your specific arrival requests and share additional or local information/tips to make your stay comfortable.

CHOOSE your Method of Transportation:

Our Concierge team can quote pricing and help coordinate whichever local transportation method you prefer:

Our friendly driver greets you as soon as you clear Customs at LIR, easily identified holding a sign with your name.  He loads your luggage into a comfortable, air-conditioned, modern shuttle.  Our pre-selected professional drivers are experienced, so enjoy the scenic drive with no hassles. The short, 30 min drive goes quickly!

Just ask if you wish to stop along the way for a restroom break or sightseeing opportunity.  He will even stop at a supermarket within Playa del Coco, if you wish to shop and stock the kitchen with whatever you wish to enjoy during your stay.

If you are travelling from North America, you will find driving in Costa Rica is a breeze!  Costa Ricans also drive on the right, just like in Canada or US.   The route to Playa del Coco from Liberia is fully paved, with ground markings and signage.   There is only a single lane of traffic moving in either direction, so you could encounter slight delays depending on the time of day.

Major rental car companies are at the international airport, however your Concierge can pre-arrange your reservation with Adobe Rental Car (our recommended car rental company).   A representative of Adobe Rental will be waiting for you at the airport to shuttle you back to their Liberia office to complete the paperwork, en route to Playa del Coco.

Once you are ready to hit the road, Follow These Directions:

-Turn left out of Adobe’s parking lot

-Follow Route 21 (driving over the Sardinal bridge), to Route 151 taking you into Playa del Coco

(Approx. 24 km or 24 min. Pass recognizable landmarks:  Local fruit stand beneath the large billboard for ‘Diamonte Eco Adventure Park’ at the intersection of Routes 21 & 151.  A gas station is on the left side)

-Keep right as you pass the ‘boat anchor’ landmark into Playa del Coco

-Drive through downtown Coco (Approx. 550 m. Pass recognizable landmarks:  Hard Rock Café on right, Coco Casino across from the Papagayo Seafood restaurant)

-Turn right onto ‘La Chorrera’ (NOTE: this street is not marked. It is 1 block north of the beach and is directly across from the ‘Zi Lounge’ restaurant)

-Take ‘La Chorrera’ to the ‘Las Palmas’ development (Approx. 700 m. Pass recognizable landmarks:  Deep Blue Diving and the ‘El Pueblito’ strip plaza/outdoor mall)

-Drive thru the boat anchor landmark marking the entrance to the Las Palmas condo, keep left at the fork in the road to ‘Calle Cocotero’ (Approx. 59 m. Pass recognizable landmarks: Palm Real Estate office.  NOTE: Calle Cocotero is not marked)

– Turn left onto ‘Calle Cocotero’ to Avenida Macarena (Approx. 300 m. Pass recognizable landmarks: Costours and Coldwell Banker Realty offices. NOTE: Calle Cocotero turns slightly left and becomes Av Macarena at the ‘T’ junction.  NOTE:  Ave Macarena is not marked)

– Turn left onto ‘Avenida Macarena’ and enter the Tropical Waves condo complex on your right. (Approx. 140 m)

– Park in anywhere in the gated parking lot. Free street parking also avail

After clearing customs, you will find different types of taxis waiting outside the airport.  There will also be many individuals vying for your attention or offering to help you with your bags.  We recommend that you do not let your luggage out of your personal possession by letting a helpful taxi attendant or airport luggage carrier attempt to load your bags in a vehicle.  Look for the official ‘red’ or ‘orange’ taxis (these are the regulated and licensed taxis of Costa Rica).  Tell the driver that you wish to go to Playa del Coco, Las Palmas, Tropical Waves and the driver will know his way.  Expect to pay approx. $40-60 USD for this one way trip.

NOTE:  While most taxis in Costa Rica are typical ‘compact’ sedan type vehicles, don’t be alarmed if the driver secures your luggage on the roof!  Larger transportation style vehicles are normally associated with sight-seeing tours or shuttles to resorts/car rental companies

From the airport you can take a public bus (the Pulmitan de Liberia) right into Playa del Coco.  The cost is approx. 550 colones (approx. $1 USD) for a one way ticket.  This bus usually runs from 5 am to 7 pm with stops approx every hour.
